Covid-19: 29-year-old Srinagar woman youngest to die of the infection

Srinagar: A 29-year-old resident of the Habba Kadal area in Srinagar, who had tested positive for COVID-19 last Friday has died at the Chest and Disease (CD) hospital in the city. With her death, the overall death toll in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to thirteen.

The woman with comorbid ailments was admitted to the surgical ICU of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital in critical condition when she tested positive for COVID-19 on 15 May.

She was admitted as a case of “septic shock at SMHS hospital and when her reports returned positive”. Then she was shifted to the CD hospital, one of COVID-19 designated hospitals.

Dr Salim Tak, Medical Superintendent at the CD hospital told that the woman died around 4 pm. Mr. Tak further added that the woman, who was previously operated in the SMHS Hospital Srinagar by ENT surgeons for Ludwig’s Angina (submandibular abscess) and mediastinitis and had septic shock.

Of the thirteen people to have died of COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir, eleven were from the Kashmir division while the remaining two hailed from the Jammu division. Prior to the Srinagar woman’s death today, a 32-year-old man from Srinagar, with no comorbidities, had died of the infection. Four days later, his father, too, died of the infection.
