Member of Parliament from Muzaffarpur Ajay Nishad has stirred controversy with his statement about members of the Nizamuddin Tablighi Jamaat Markaz. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bihar said all members of the Muslim missionary movement should be dealt with like “terrorists” for spreading the novel coronavirus.

Nishad went even further to blame members of the Nizamuddin Tablighi Jamaat Markaz for the critical situation India is facing owing to the novel coronavirus outbreak. “The madrasa only imparts education about how to repair punctures which is why these people have made it (pandemic) more critical,” MP Ajay Nishad said.

The BJP MP’s statement comes at a time when Covid-19 cases started to emerge from his home-constituency of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. Nishad demanded that members of the Nizamuddin Tablighi Jamaat Markaz who were responsible for the spread of Covid-19 in various parts of the country be treated like terrorists by the government of India.

“They (Jamaat members) are only given enough education at madrasas to repair punctures. In madrasas, innocent children are taught about fundamentalism and given the wrong education,” MP Ajay Nishad was quoted as saying.
Nishad also added that Muzaffarpur was in the green zone with no confirmed cases of Covid-19 but the entry of outsiders has now led to detection of positive cases. “Jamaatis have absolutely spread corona throughout the country,” BJP MP Ajay Nishad said.

“The minorities, especially Jamaatis have made the situation critical in the country owing to their lack of education,” said the 53-year-old two-time MP from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur.

Ajay Nishad is the son of late Jai Narain Prasad Nishad, a former MP and Minister of State (MoS) in the Union government.
