PSA detention of 41 lodged in UP jails revoked, total 140
Srinagar: In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday revoked Public Safety Act (PSA) detention orders of forty-one people languishing in different jails of Uttar Pradesh.
Sources in administration of J-K Union Territory disclosed that government this morning revoked PSA detention orders of forty-one people; with this, the number of PSA detention orders revoked in the past one month has reached 140.
On Monday, the government had revoked PSA detention orders of thirty-six people languishing in different jails of J-K.
Under the Public Safety Act, the government is empowered to revoke detention orders passed by district magistrates.
After abrogation of Article 370 by BJP-led Central government in Augsut 2019, nearly 5,000 people were detained in Kashmir to scuttle protests, and many were shifted outside J-K and lodged in eight jails of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. (KNO)
