Stating that domestic necessity of Hydroxychloroquine is the priority of the government, the health ministry Friday said India has 3.38 crore tablets of the drug available,  which means we have triple the requirement for the country. “Domestic production has been 100% ensured for now and for future,” said Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With 678 new cases and 33 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India stood at 6,761 and toll at 206. A decision on extending the lockdown is expected to be taken any day now as India scales up its fight against the coronavirus. The Centre has asked states to double the number of tests conducted to at least 2.5 lakh by April 14, when the 21-day lockdown ends.  (Click here to read state-wise coronavirus data)

The global toll due to COVID-19 is likely to cross 100,000 in the next few hours. The number of infections has risen above 1.6 million. Italy has lost the most number of people to the virus (18,279), followed by United States (16,686), Spain (15,447) and France (12,210). The US has the highest number of confirmed cases at 462,135, followed by Spain (153,222) and Italy (143,626), according to John Hopkins.
