When some former minister and lawmakers made a new political party with Altaf Bukhari as the main face, they rushed to New Delhi to get a firm assurance from Prime Minister and Union Home Minister for the protection of local interests for jobs and land in the newly formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
They had a detailed meeting with Union Home Minister and got an assurance from him that all the apprehensions would be allayed by the central government as there would be full protection to the interests of common people in both Kashmir valley and Jammu region.
In this direction, central government said that they will take care of all the interests of people and assured the new leadership that they will soon frame the new laws for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. So that people will see for themselves that the central government has no hidden designs against them.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah while meeting the delegation led by Altaf Bukhari gave categorical assurance that no demographic change would be effected in the region should not only allay fears of people, but can also serve as an antidote to the radicalization in J&K.
J&K’s demographics were roiled over the frequent noises made about changing the demographic character of the region as a sequel to J&K’s complete integration with the country following the scrapping of Article 370 and 35A.
Amit Shah has tried to soothe the frayed tempers not only of J&K, but also of the other Union Territory of Ladakh. That, too, had its fears and apprehensions on this count.
