Recently Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned officers to work on the measures on priority and remove bottlenecks for the better public service delivery and the better management of traffic especially in Srinagar city.

He issued timelines to the concerned departments and asked them to submit a weekly report to the Divisional Commissioner’s office so that prompt measures are implemented on ground for smooth functioning of traffic in the city. People have been demanding an end to the present behavior of traffic police with them as without any parking space available they only fine vehicles and it takes people hours to days to clear their vehicles from the traffic department.

Government has recently said that they are committed to ensure better traffic management across the region, particularly Srinagar city and asked the concerned to work with dedication to achieve this goal. But the behavior change in the rank and file of traffic police is the first step for the ensuring of better traffic management in Srinagar city.

In the coming summer months, the traffic will increase on the streets of Srinagar and the government should make ready all the parking spaces some of them under construction so that people can park their vehicles without any harassment and intimidation. People have been complaining that traffic police officials were lifting their vehicles even from the designated parking spaces in Srinagar city and blamed corruption for such exercises.
