People of Jammu and Kashmir got a chance to log in for social media after seven months as the authorities after reviewing situation on the ground decided to give access to the people after such a long time. Earlier in a phased manner authorities have eased the restrictions on the ground including first giving landlines back which was followed by easing the restrictions on mobile telephones.

These all decisions have been taken like baby steps for peace and for monitoring on the situation on the ground unfolding after easing of such restrictions. Many restrictions including heavy presence of security forces have also been eased on the ground as there were no reports of violence in Kashmir valley in the past seven months which would need not to lift such restrictions.

Access to social media has been welcomed by students by tourist traders and many other segments of the society as after seven months they could finally use such means of communication from Kashmir.

According to the orders issued by Principal Secretary, Home department, the internet speed shall be restricted to 2G only. Such restrictions on the speed of internet had irked student community as they have to wait for a time to download their study material and also to fill up their forms for different advance courses.

According to the tourist traders of Kashmir, such low and restricted speed will not encourage any tourists to visit Kashmir as there has been no tourism from the month of August 2019, after the authorities not only suspended Amarnath yatra but also instructed all the tourists to move out from Kashmir valley within 24 hours.
