There is no doubt that central government has not only eased restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir but have set in motion the process of releasing mainstream political prisoners including former ministers and law makers. But the government has not so far shown any inclination to release three former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir erstwhile state including Farooq Abdullah, Omer Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.

Farooq Abdullah was detained under PSA soon after his friend from South Mr. Viako went to Supreme Court challenging his detention while the authorities informed the court that he was detained under PSA.

Mehbooba Mufti and Omer Abdullah were detained in Kashmir for six months but finally when there were media reports that they would be shifted to their homes from detention, the government decided to detain them under PSA.

This fresh move of the government forced the family members of Omer and Mehbooba to approach Supreme Court to challenge their continuous detention. Omer sister Sara Abdullah went to Supreme Court and the latest about the case is that the government has filed an affidavit saying that he was a threat to the security and peace of Kashmir.

Government even mentioned the border importance of Jammu and Kashmir and said that for the peace in Kashmir it was necessary for them to keep them under detention. In the affidavit the government said that Omar Abdullah by-passed the effective alternative remedy that is available under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA) of filing the representation before the government and/or hearing in person before the Advisory Board.
