International Mother Tongue day celebrated in Bandipora
BANDIPORA, FEBRUARY 21: The Cultural wing of the Department of Education, Bandipora organized a day long function to celebrate International Mother Tongue Day, here today.
Renowned scholars, poets, columnists and students participated in the programme.
Chief Education Officer Bandipora, Javid Iqbal highlighted the importance of mother tongue, especially Kashmiri, Gojri, Pahadi, Balti, Dard Sheena and other languages spoken in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that preservation of mother tongue is imperative for preservation of culture and ethnicity of a particular area. He said parents should ensure that they converse with their children in mother tongue from early age.
On the occasion students participated in a debate highlighting the importance of mother tongue. The students also staged folk dances and sung songs of different languages which enthralled the audience.
