Srinagar/New Delhi: Central government will take the final call about the release of detained two former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, as their detention has expired today on Wednesday. However Dr. Farooq Abdullah is currently under detention and it was slapped again on him by authorities three months again.
Authorities booked Farooq Abdullah under PSA when one of the leaders of PMK from South Vaiko pleaded in Supreme Court for his release and Jammu and Kashmir government immediately booked him under PSA. However the case of Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah is different as their detention ended on Wednesday today. Authorities have to decide about their release, while the media agencies from New Delhi have said that the central government will take final call about their release along with dozens of mainstream political leaders including former ministers and lawmakers.
Many political leaders from the mainstream camp have been released in the recent past and Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday has already released former BJP allay and minister in Mehbooba cabinet on BJP ticket Sajad Gani Lone along with youth president of PDP Waheed Para. All of them were detained by the authorities in the first of week of August 2019 when central government abrogated article 370 and started a massive clampdown in Kashmir with arrest of all the political leaders including from mainstream and separatist camps.
There is no word about the release of separatist leaders. Although Jammu and Kashmir administration has already allowed Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar but Mirwaiz Umer Farooq is still under house arrest at his Nigeen residence. Recently Kashmir Bar Association President Mian Abdul Qayoom suffered heart attack in Agra jail and he was hospitalized.
