Kashmir turmoil LIVE Updates: Mehbooba Mufti slams Centre, to hold meeting with political leaders at 6 pm
Panic gripped the Kashmir Valley after the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government’s security advisory on Friday for tourists and pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra to curtail their pilgrimage. The tourists and the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims started leaving the Kashmir Valley on Saturday, even as J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik said there was no need to panic. The airfares of the airlines rising to abnormally high levels also created panic among the tourists and the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims.
Satya Pal Malik urged political leaders of the valley not to believe in rumours and even assured that there were no plans to abrogate Article 35A.
A day after the Jammu and Kashmir government issued a security advisory for tourists and pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra to curtail their pilgrimage, 6,216 passengers reported at Srinagar International Airport on Saturday to travel out of the Kashmir Valley.
Indian Army has foiled an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team on a forward post along the Line of Control in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir, killing five to seven intruders, according to a defence spokesman.
Mehbooba Mufti said, “The political parties here had decided to hold a meeting, at a hotel today. But police has issued an advisory to all hotels not to let political parties hold any meeting in hotels. So we’re holding a meeting at 6 pm today at my home.”
Former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti said, “We had made an effort to tell the people of this country and the government what the consequence could be if they toy with 35A, 370. We made an appeal too but no assurance has been given yet from centre. They are not bothered to say that everything will be alright.”
In a tweet, Mehbooba Mufti said, “Evacuate yatris, tourists, labourers, students & cricketers. Willingly create a sense of panic and distress but don’t bother giving Kashmiris a sense of relief or security. Kahan gayi insaniyat, kashmiriyat aur jamhooriyat?”
