Srinagar facing Water -logging

In the recent past especially during the rains in summers, Srinagar has been water-logged for days together and the authorities have used pumps in order to make the main business centres in Srinagar operational because of heavy rains. The drainage system in Srinagar has failed and it has shown many times in the past that it needs immediate attention of the administration to make the drainage system vibrant so that few hours of rain do not disrupt the life in the main business centres of Srinagar.

The authorities after the recent water-logging had pressed Fire and Emergency Services with their men and machinery into service and by afternoon most of the water logged areas in the Srinagar city were cleared. The Srinagar city witnessed heavy rains in early morning hours on Thursday leaving many areas of the city inundated, created lot of problems for common people.

The areas including Regal Chowk, Polo View, TRC, Palladium Galli, Exhibition Crossing, Ghanta Ghar, Jawahar Nagar, Shivpora Church Lane, College of Education, were cleared from water-logging by the men and machinery of the administration.  Divisional Commissioner Kashmir conducted extensive assessment of the city following heavy torrential rains as well as consequent water logging in different areas of the capital. He was briefed about the measures being taken to tackle water-logging and preparedness to deal with any kind of exigency.

It was informed that 80 Dewatering Stations, 115 mobile de-watering pumps and adequate number of fire tenders with personnel have been put on duty in various waterlogged areas across the city. The I&FC is also using their mobile pumps to pump out rain water that had accumulated at various locations.
