There has been lot of talk about the proposed assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir State after the conclusion of Amarnath yatra. Even a Union Minister went a step ahead when he said that additional troops were sent to Kashmir for the holding of assembly elections. Whatever the truth behind the deployment of additional paramilitary troops in Kashmir, the talk about the assembly elections is now on table.

Chief Electoral Officer of J&K State Shalindra Kumar has decided to hold a video meeting with all the Deputy Commissioner of J&K State in connection with electoral rolls etc. on Friday. This has been decided after the recent remarks by some political parties that assembly polls would be held in J&K State during October-November 2019.

State Unit of BJP has recently said that they were ready for the polls and expressed hope that they will be able to form the government. Recently, BJP held a core meeting on the J&K affairs with their party leaders and have even nominated Avanish Kumar Khanna as the poll incharge of J&K State.

State Governor Satya Pal Malik has already said that he was in favour of assembly elections in J&K State, but added that it was upto Election Commission of India to decide about the dates, keeping in view the law and order situation also. In the recent past law and order situation has improved and there are enough indications that election commission of India may decide about the dates after the conclusion of Amarnath yatra.
