Amarnath Yatra suspended from Jammu due to highway closure
Srinagar : Authorities on Wednesday suspended the Amarnath yatra from Jammu for a day due to blockade of Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
An official said due to blockade of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway no Yatri will be allowed to move towards the Valley today from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas.
Only pilgrims already in Baltal and Pahalgam will be allowed to move towards the cave shrine, he said.
So far, 26 pilgrims have died during the yatra. In addition to this, two volunteers and two security men also lost their lives.
The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly. Till date, at least 3,31,770 pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.
“This is the highest number of pilgrims to visit the Cave shrine in the last four years,” an official said.
