Fresh batch of 2,723 pilgrims leave Jammu for Amarnath
Srinagar : A fresh batch of 2,723 pilgrims left Jammu on Wednesday for the Kashmir Valley to perform the Amarnath Yatra.
An official said that 2,723 including women and sadhus, left Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu base camp for Baltal and Nunwan camps under unprecedented security arrangements for amaranth yatra.
“Of these, 1,247 yatris are going to Baltal base camp while 1,476 are going to Pahalgam base camp,” he said.
He said that so far,24 pilgrims have died during the yatra. Of these, 2 died in accidents while 22 died of natural causes.
The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly. Till date, at least 2,38,974 pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.
“This is the highest number of pilgrims to visit the Cave shrine in the last four years,” an official said.
