Muslim Wakf Board

Muslim Wakf Board after becoming one of the wings of the State Administration has come under severe criticism for the lack of maintenance of the Shrines from which it is getting crores of rupees in a year. Most of the funds collected from the shrines are being used for the purchase of vehicles for the officers and for buying computers and other office furniture. Muslim Wakf Board should understand its responsibility and should learn from Mata Vaishno Devi Trust which has not only made a university in Jammu, but also a state of art hospital for the common people.

Despite earning huge sums from the shrines and from other Wakf properties, the State administration has failed to make the Wakf Board a vibrant financial institution for the people of Kashmir. The shops at the prime places of Srinagar have been given to the blue-eyed boys of the politicians in the past and they are not even paying the rent regularly. Wakf Board needs an immediate overhaul and they have not been able to retrieve hundreds of kanals of land at different places in Kashmir.

Despite Governor’s best efforts to provide corruption free administration, J&K Wakf Board has yet to come out from the clouds of complaints and from the lax attitude to retrieve the Wakf properties from the people. This is the golden opportunity for the J&K Wakf Board to retrieve the properties as the political influence cannot work during the Governor’s administration. They have lot of assets which can be the real game changers for the board and the money generated out of these assets can be used for the public good.
