Another batch of 5,486 pilgrims leave for Amarnath cave

Srinagar : A  batch of 5,486 pilgrims left Jammu amid tight security arrangements on Thursday for the Kashmir Valley to perform the Amarnath Yatra.

They left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in an escorted convoy of 221 vehicles and headed to the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps, an official said.

He said that for Pahalgam route, 2514 male, 591 females, 25 children and 227 sadhus left the base camp in 133 vehicles and for Baltal, 1465 male, 654 females and 10 children left in 88 vehicles including buses and LMVs.

The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly. Till date, over 1.2 lakh pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.

The pilgrimage will end on August 15, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival.
