Ladakh highway
All the claims of Central Government that they will make Srinagar-Ladakh highway all weather road is still in pipeline as there are many hurdles after a contractor left the work on Zojila Tunnel without completing it. The harsh weather and very limited working season is one of the main hurdles for the Zojila Tunnel Project to get completed. When the Central Government awarded the work to the private company, it was told to complete the project in seven years.
The difficult terrain and the weather conditions forced the contractor to leave the contract after completing ground work of the project. The Central Government has yet to finalize the new contract with any new company as there are not many bidders for the Zojila Tunnel Project. In such circumstances it is all likelihood that the present working season will be washed off due to the fact that the government has yet to finalize the project and the tender for any new contractor.
Amid such chaos, the people of Ladakh region have recently voted for BJP in the Ladakh region as the party has promised the people of this region that they will get all the development which they have been craving for in the past 70 years. But the ground realities are as grim and as stark as they were before the entry of BJP into the mountainous region of J&K State.
The people of Ladakh have lot of hopes on the BJP government at the Centre for accelerating the pace of development in this region. Recently Governor’s administration took a historic step by allowing a huge airport for Kargil district. The people of Kargil district have been waiting for the airport from the past 70 years. Despite the approval, it will take lot of time for the completion of the project though it is a huge step for the development and for the common people of Kargil as they were facing lot of hardships to move out of the district during winters.
