Impending dangers
After the Eid, the people of Kashmir are waiting very anxiously about the new policy which is going to unfold on Kashmir. New Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently met State Governor Satya Pal Malik and got the brief about the ground situation. People of Kashmir have lot of fears about the new policy which includes that the BJP government may repeal the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
Even in this month of June there is very low tourism and the economic condition in Kashmir is only deteriorating. With tourism at the lowest ebb in the past one decade, people of Kashmir have already suffered on economic front because of the continued violence in Kashmir Valley. Even in the month of June according to the tourism players there are no any healthy bookings of the tourists to Kashmir Valley.
As BJP has promised to repeal Article 370 and Article 35(A) in their election manifesto, with more than 300 seats, people of Kashmir have fears that they will go ahead with their plan to do so. Although National Conference and PDP have been maintaining that it would be the end of constitutional relationship between New Delhi and Kashmir, but deep down in the minds of common Kashmiris, there is a fear that these two articles will go and it will result in a fresh unrest.
The new contours of the policy on Kashmir will become visible very soon and the people of Kashmir are still stewing in their own soup with no respite. If the good sense prevails on the Central Government, there is a chance that there would be some rethinking about the Kashmir policy at the top as the Prime Minsiter Narindra Modi has a huge mandate which has come with huge responsibility?
