UDHAMPUR- National Conference State Secretary and former minister Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia on Wednesday cautioned people against elements inimical to the time tested secular fabric of the State, saying time has come to shrink their political space.

Addressing workers meeting, held as part of the campaign for the Congress candidate for Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Parliamentary Constituency Mr Vikramaditiya Singh, here this afternoon, Mr Slathia said that National Conference has all along fought the vicious game plan of communal forces in the past and will do so in future as well with support of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

He said National Conference has a chequred history of fighting exploitative and disruptive elements who want to create wedge between the people on the basis of region and religion. “This spirit has been a guiding force for the party which has made it a mass movement”, he maintained.

Mr Slathia recalled the sacrifices offered by National Conference while fighting these elements and pledged to do so in future as well in the larger interest of the state and its people. He said his party has espoused the cause of the people, irrespective of caste, creed and colour even during most testing times. He said that his party believes in social justice, equality and dignified way of life for the people of all the three regions and this mission will be pursued with missionary zeal.

Addressing the gathering, Provincial Vice President Mr Jugal Mahajan cautioned the people against ugly ploys of communal forces, saying they tend to assume the role of self styled guardians of the people with an eye on votes.

Mr Mahajan hoped that the sagacious electors will not oblige the reactionary forces by reacting to their gimmicks, as BJP’s inherent agenda of divide and rule is not new for them.

District President Mr Sunil Verma also addressed the workers and urged the people to gear up for meeting the challenges faced to the State.

District Secretary Mr Ram Parshotam and Block Presidents and Secretaries of the Uhdampur District also addressed the meeting.

Mr Slathia and other senior leaders made a fervent appeal to the people to cast their votes in favour of the Congress candidate, saying this will be the victory of progressive, secular and forward looking forces of the State.
