Dozens of villages suffer for drinking water while PHE sleeps

Aharbal: In the remote villages around Aharbal health resort, dozens of women daily have to fetch the water from the nearby water body as the PHE scheme which was done for the benefit of these villages is in shambles.

Daily girls and women go by foot for miles to get drinking water in their utensils on their heads, as the PHE scheme which was inaugurated for their benefit known as Sangam-Sakejen Aharbal Water Supply Scheme. In this backdrop, the people in the villages of Mandowabal Chanidar, Korel, Panditpora, Watto, Tangmarg (switched at the base of Aharbal) and Gujjar Basti along with K.B. Pora are suffering for the want of safe drinking water. As the spring season is coming, the waters from the nallahs and other water bodies is not safe for the school going children.

The residents of these villages told this reporter that they approached the Executive Engineer of PHE along with his junior engineers in the past few weeks but without any response. The residents have appealed Chief Engineer PHE and other concerned authorities to set right the water supply scheme without any further delay.

They have appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik and the in-charge Advisor of PHE to intervene so that hundreds of villagers are not forced to come on streets even to press the demand of getting safe drinking water.
