Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) Friday held a protest demonstration in Srinagar demanding immediate  release of political prisoners.

Scores of JKLF supporters and activists assembled at Maisuma soon after the Friday prayers and held a protest demonstration against the recent NIA raids on JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

The protesters said that ban on religious organisation Jama’at-e- Islami is unacceptable, and strongly condemned it.

The government of India Thursday banned Kashmir’s socio-religious organisation Jamaat-e-Islami, days after arresting scores of its members in a massive crackdown by the police.

The ban order, issued by the union home ministry this evening, said that the JeI has been “indulging in activities which are prejudicial to internal security and public order and (have) potential of disrupting the unity and integrity of the country”.

“Most of the religious leaders and JRL leadership has been detained by the police, we demand immediate release of all leaders,” the protesters said
