Srinagar: Soon after heavy snowfall, on Thursday Deputy Commissioner Srinagar issued a statement claiming that his administration was ready to help the people to bring them respite if their localities were water-logged. Till Friday afternoon, all the telephone numbers given by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar were tossing the people in distress from one person to another without sending the Fire Services vehicles to dewater those low-lying localities. With the result till Friday afternoon, dozens of localities in Srinagar remained cut off as students and patients suffered most as they could not move out from their respective localities.

While talking to media people from many localities of Srinagar city said that PA to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar on telephone No. 9419080036, only assures help from the past two days but without any success. They said that PA finally tells them to dial 9419032508, and the person on this telephone No. tells the people in distress to dial back PA to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and there is no trace of Fire Service vehicles as promised by them for dewatering in several localities.

People from Al-Fazal Colony of Peer Bagh told media that they have been waiting for the dewatering of their locality from Thursday. They said that after a recent Dharna on the Airport Road, the authorities assured them that the work on the long pending drainage would be taken up, but so far nothing has been done. They accused the authorities of diverting their funds for the drainage to such areas were bureaucrats and politicians are living in the Peer Bagh area.
