Thousands attend funeral prayers of slain Hizb, Jaish militants in south Kashmir villages

Srinagar: Thousands of mourners on Friday participated in the funeral prayers of three militants killed in a day-long gunfight with the government forces in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district yesterday, even as gun-salute was offered to one of them by his associates.

Three militants, two of the Hizbul Mujahideen and one of Jaish-e-Mohammad, were killed in a gunfight with government forces on Thursday in Gulshanpora village of Tral township of the district.

The slain militants were identified as Zubair Ahmad Bhat alias Abu Huraira, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, resident of Chursoo, Awantipora; Shakoor Ahmad Parray alias Jaffar, son of Ghulam Nabi Parray, resident of Laribal Tral; and Tawseef Ahmad Thoker alias Abu Talha, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Thoker, resident of Chursoo, Awantipora.

Reports said that two groups of militants appeared at the funeral of Shakoor in Laribal Tral and offered gun salutes.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in the area with all shops and other commercial establishments shut. Internet continues to remain suspended for the second straight day in the area.
