Panchayat polls phase 7 : Baramulla records 12% turnout till noon

Srinagar: Baramulla in north Kashmir on Tuesday recorded a voter turnout of 12 percent till noon in the seventh phase of Panchayat elections.

Rafiabad and Pattan blocks of the district are going to polls today.

Voting began for the seventh phase Tuesday amid JRL’s shutdown call in poll-bound areas. Polling started at 8 am and will end at 2 pm.

Voting for the 7th phase is being held at 2,714 polling stations — 576 in Kashmir and 2,138 in Jammu.

A total of 5,575 candidates are in the fray for 341 sarpanch and 1,798 panch seats while 85 sarpanchs and 912 panchs have already been elected unopposed in this phase.

The nine-phased elections that began on November 17 is slated to end on December 11.
