Candlelight protests is a shift from hartal politics
JKLF and JRL activists held candlelight protests across Kashmir in protest against the killing spree in the past few weeks in valley.Recently JRL has said that they are mulling to look for other forms of protests instead of general strike calls.
People in Kashmir valley have always responded to the hartal calls of JRL and have shown thier approval to all forms of protests against the alleged excesses and killings in Kashmir valley. Mainstream media along with central government have always accused JRL of promoting violence. Resistance Leadership has been maintaining that the government is providing them no space and were pushing youth to path of violence.
Candlelight protests is a bit of effort by resistance leaders in Kashmir valley for a change to register protests. Use of force is still the first option with government forces whenever the youth from kashmir protest. The use of pellets on families in shopian in which the mother and her twenty month old baby was injured shows the growing demand for the space for dissent in Kashmir.
