Disaster management, basic life support training to be organized in schools: DC Srinagar

SRINAGAR : Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Saturday said that in order to strengthen the disaster management apparatus in the district Basic Life Support and District Disaster Management training will be offered in schools across the district.

The DC was speaking in a meeting of District Disaster Management Authority held to discuss utilisation of Rs 5 crore released by the State government to each district for bolstering the disaster management framework.

          Several important decisions regarding the strengthening of disaster management in the district were taken in the meeting including those involving expenditure in acquiring necessary equipment and medical supplies required during different kinds of disasters and capacity building for a more prepared and robust dealing with disaster eventualities.

          Dr Shah said disaster management is being made one of the focus areas in the district and that efforts are being made to strengthen the civil defence and State Disaster Response Force in the district. He said an educated and trained group of volunteers will be prepared to assist in disaster management efforts as and when required.

          The meeting was informed that a disaster management activities calendar is being prepared in efforts towards streamlining of disaster management as an important administrative feature in the district.

 Committee members representing different concerned departments, including ADC Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, ACR Srinagar and SE R&B, were present in the meeting.
