MGNREGA employees continue to protest in Srinagar, Seek absorption in RDD
Srinagar:Employees of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on the second consecutive day, today staged a protest demonstration at Partap Park in Srinagar, demanding their absorption in Rural Development Department and PR
Scores of the employees from all districts of Jammu and Kashmir assembled at Partap Park and protested against what they termed “successive Governments played with the future by giving hallow promises and assurances to them.”
The protestors include programme officers, MIS operators, Technical Assistants, Gram Rozgar Schemes Sahayaks (GRS), and Accounts Assistants. The protesting employees said that they are highly qualified, skilled and experienced working in a department for twelve years in the Rural development department and PR but they have not been regularised yet.
“Last year we called off the protest at Jammu when the government assured us that they will absorb us in RDD and PR,” said one of the protesting employee, Sabzar Ahmed, from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Threatening more protests, if the govt fails to do anything, Sabzar said: “we will intensify the protest in the coming days.”
