Shopian gunfight: Second slain militant identified as Babar
Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday identified the second militant killed in a gunfight with the forces in Kundalan village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district as Babar, a resident of Pakistan.
The militants killed during the gunfight were identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh, a local and Babar from Pakistan. “They were affiliated with Jaish-e-Muhammad militant outfit,” said a police spokesman.
Giving details, he said that a joint patrol of the forces launched searches in Kundalan village in the wee hours today following “credible leads” regarding the presence of militants.
“As the searches were going on, militants hiding inside the house fired upon the search party. The search party in their guarded response fired back, thereby establishing contact with the militan0ts leading to an encounter. Some of the civilians in the nearby houses were quickly evacuated by the security forces,” he said.
The spokesman said that Sheikh was a “school dropout and had joined the JeM outfit after he was reported missing from his home in April 2018.”
