Family of slain Sikh woman protests in Srinagar, seek justice

Srinagar:The family of a Sikh lady who according to the family was killed by her in-laws in Mehjoor Nagar area of Srinagar, staged a protest demonstration at press colony Srinagar on Wednesday demanding punishment for the culprits.

The family and relatives of the slain Sikh women assembled at press colony holding banner and placards which read “we want Justice”, “Punish the culprits”, “Justice for Pooja”, demanded justice for the slain woman.
Prabjoot, a mother of one child was married before six years, was found hanged at her room in Mehjoor Nagar on Thursday. later the family claimed that she was killed by her in-laws.
“We want to know the truth about what actually happened that day,” said one of the protesting relative.
Another relative claimed that ” the inlaws of Prabjoot used to beat and harass her on daily basis, as they wanted the dowry from her.”
The family also claimed that no initiative has been taken by the police yet, however, the family has appealed to the Governor and other concerned authorities to intervene in the matter. so that justice could be brought to the slain lady.
Meanwhile, an official from the concerned police station said that the case under registration number 174, crpc, has been registered and further investigations have been taken up.
“We are investigating the cause of the death, and the medical report of the deceased lady is still pending.
