Only one militant killed in Pulwama encounter:Police

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said that security forces had killed one suspected militants during an encounter in Pulwama’s Thamuna village the day before. A civilian was also killed in the crossfire. On Friday, the state’s Director General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid had said that security forces had killed three militants in the encounter.

A joint patrol of security forces found the body of one militant, while two others are believed to have escaped the site. The police said they had released a few civilians who were taken hostage by the militants during the encounter.

The deceased militant has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Shah, who is believed to have been affiliated to the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group. A police official identified the deceased civilian as Faizan Ahmad Khan, a resident of Khrew Pampore area.

Four civilians, who were also injured during the encounter are being treated at a local hospital and their condition is stable, the police said. They sustained injuries after security forces used pump action guns to disperse protesters who had gathered near the site of the encounter in Thumna village of Chatpora area, Greater Kashmir reported.

The police seized a rifle and ammunition from the encounter site.
