Four civilians killed, 30 injured in cross-border shelling in Jammu

Four civilians were killed while as seven others received injuries in a cross-border firing between Indian and Pakistani troops at International Border (IB) in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts.

New Delhi based news agency, PTI, reported that two civilians were killed while six others received injuries in the heavy motor shelling and firing in Samba that began at 9 AM.  “There was heavy firing and shelling on civilian areas and posts along the IB in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district before dawn”, a senior police officer was quoted by PTI.

One among the injured persons succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital, the officer told PTI adding that 100 border dwellers have been evacuated and put in safe shelters. The officer, according to PTI, claimed shelling was going on.

A civilian was also killed in R S Pura sector while another was injured in Arnia sector. The Armies of the two quarrelsome have been trading bullets and heavy artillery since yesterday. “In heavy shelling by Pakistan this morning, a civilian was killed in R S Pura sector and another injured in Arnia sector”, a police officer told PTI.

The officer said that a large number of people have been evacuated from several villages in these sectors since last night. 20 civilians were injured on Tuesday after Pakistani troops targeted Indian villages.
