Vehicle of former DyCM’s spouse seized

Srinagar, : Inspector General of Police (IGP), Traffic Basant Rath, is getting more support from general public for not sparing the politically well connected people and security forces personnel during the drive against encroachers and traffic rules violators.
The other day, the Traffic Police seized the vehicle of Safina Baig, wife of former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beg and Member Parliament for wrong parking. Her driver was also found without driving license.
Safina Baig had parked her car bearing registration number JK01V 7600 outside Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School in Rajbagh area of Srinagar. The car was obstructing the traffic movement on the busy road and Traffic Police seized the vehicle and its driver was also found without license.
Safina Baig who is head of the women’s wing of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party pleaded with the Traffic Police against seizing of the vehicle. People, however, appreciated the move for sending a strong message that law is not for common people only.
In the meantime, the IGP traffic, Basant Rath this evening cleared wrong parking from Dalgate to Nehru Park area in Srinagar. Several vehicles were seized and challaned in the area.
Yesterday in a major drive against encroachments, accompanied by the SMC Commissioner, Riyaz Ahmad Wani, the Traffic Police and SMC removed encroachments from several parts of Srinagar city.
In Hari Singh High Street area encroachments made by the shopkeepers especially carpet dealers were removed.
The road from Old Secretariat to DC office Srinagar that was encroached at several places was cleared and so were the encroachments from Shaheed Gunj to SMHS hospital. Several cars were seized and challaned during the drive.
People were seen clicking pictures and filming the anti-encroachment drive and taking selfies with the IGP.
