BOPEE Scam: Ex-chairman Mushtaq Peer sentenced to 5-yrs in prison
Srinagar: An anti-corruption court in Srinagar Wednesday giving verdict on 2012 CET scam convicted former chairman of Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer.
The court sentenced Peer to five years imprisonment besides fined him with Rs 1 crore. 43 accused have also been convicted in the case with imprisonment and fine.
The court had recorded the statements of witnesses and the parties had concluded the arguments by November.
According to the prosecution, and Crime Branch investigation, Peer had sold the CET-2012 papers along with answer keys for Rs 60 lakh to some aspirants who secured admissions in medical college.
Peer and over 50 others, accused in the case, were charge-sheeted in FIR 24/2013 Under Section 420, 120B RPC, 5(2)d r/w (5(2) PC Act) Police Station Crime Branch.
