Shopian, Pulwama shuts on 9th consecutive day to mourn killings

Srinagar:  Shopian district and parts of Pulwama in the southern part of Kashmir are observing a complete shutdown for the 9th straight day against the killing of militants and civilians last Sunday.

Reports from the area said all shops, business establishments, government and private offices remained closed in these districts while public and private transport was off the roads.

Sources said that heavy contingents of government forces were deployed at sensitive locations in the districts to maintain law and order.

On Sunday, April 1, 2018, 13 militants, 12 of them residents of Shopian, and 4 civilians, 3 of them residents of Shopian, and one militant in Pulwama on Friday were killed by government forces during 4 separate encounters.
