In a convincing display of all-round cricket, India beat Australia by 8 wickets to win the ICC Under-19 World Cup in  Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, on Saturday.

Opener Manjot Karla struck a brilliant century to guide India to their record 4th Under-19 World Cup title after the bowlers had restricted the Aussies to 217 all out inside 48 overs.

And congratulatory messages poured in from all quarters as the Rahul Dravid-coached team overpowered the Aussies in the final.

Leading the people in congratulating the team was former India opener Virender Sehwag and a former teammate of ‘The Wall’.

“Every Indian is delighted, all credit to Rahul Dravid for committing himself to these young kids ,and a legend like him deserves to lay his hands on the WC. Only Fitting. #INDvAUS,” he tweeted.

Noted commentator Harsha Bhogle, while congratulating the team summed up India’s show at thr tournament.

“Well played by India’s young champions. Throughout the tournament, they played at a different level. I don’t think young players in any other cricketing environment get to play as much cricket as they do in India. Not surprised they look so ready. You expect a young Indian side to bat well. And this team batted splendidly. But the big difference lay in the quality of quick bowling,” Bhogle wrote on his Twitter page.

Former India paceman Zaheer Khan tweeted: “A big congratulations to the young guns of Indian cricket on winning the under19 Cricket World Cup !! #U19CWC.”

Former Australian batsman Dean Jones was also quick to wish the Indians on their fantastic effort.

“Well done India on winning your 4th U19 World Cup! Superbly coached by Rahul.. bad luck to our boys… good effort! #U19WCFinal,” read his tweet.

Sanjay Manjrekar also put out a congratulatory message on Twitter: “Well done India under 19s! That the triumph came overseas makes it even more special. #ICCU19WorldCup.”

Among others to send in their wishes were Kiwi all-rounder Corey Anderson, himself once an Under-19 captain of the New Zealand team, and popular commentator Danny Morrison.

“Congratulations India! Winners of the @ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018! Well done to all the teams, all the sponsors, and all the fans for a great World Cup! Crickets future is in strong hands! #U19CWC #FutureStars,” Anderson tweeted.(Agencies)
