Field Publicity wing organized Special Outreach programme on RTI Act

           REASI, DEC 30- With the objective of empowering the citizens and promoting transparency and accountability in government functioning, an awareness programme on Right to Information Act was organized by Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India J&K Region at Government Girls Higher secondary school Reasi here today.

             Chief Information Commissioner, State Information Commission J&K Khurshid Ahmed Ganai was the chief guest on the occasion.

          Speaking on this occasion the  Chief Information Commissioner said that Right to information plays a pivotal role for any citizen of India to know the working of Government departments and to change old mindset about secrecy in working of government and now new parameters are set up to enhance transparency and accountability in governance.

           He said every individual has the freedom to seek government related information through this RTI Act. “The Right to Information Act is one of the key legislation which guarantees the right and freedom of every citizen of India to seek the information related to government dealings, both at centre and the state”.

            Ganai appreciated the efforts of Directorate of Field Publicity in organizing such programmes for the betterment of society and for the awareness of Common masses.  He strongly advocated that such programmes should also be organised in Colleges, Panchayats, villages and other Institutions of the State.

            Deputy Director, DFP, Govt. of India, J&K Region, Neha Jalali while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of such programmes and expressed her gratitude to  Khurshid Ahmed Ganai for extending his cooperation and coordination in organizing the programme.

             Ashok Kumar Pandita, Secretary, State Information Commission also interacted with audience and highlighted the importance of RTI in bringing transparency and accountability in Government departments.

            Law Officer, Zaheer Abbas from State Information Commission and Rakesh Chobber, Lecturer Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Reasi acted as resource persons and delivered key note addresses on RTI Act for the awareness of masses.

            A large gathering comprising of School teachers, Students, Ex. Sarpanches, Ex. panches, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and local people participated in the programme.

            Later, a rally of School Students of Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Reasi was flagged off by Chief Information Commissioner.  The rally started from Girls Higher secondary school Reasi and passed through Nai basti, Main bazaar, Bus Stand and culminated back at Girls Higher secondary school Reasi.                    Presentation of Skits and theme based songs by registered troupes of Song and  Drama Division were other attractions of the day long programme.
