Srinagar city under restrictions again for Friday

Authorities have imposed restrictions in the jurisdiction of seven police stations of Srinagar city to prevent seperatists sponsored protests after Friday prayers. People of Srinagar especially from downtown Srinagar have expressed shock and surprise to the curfew like restrictions to be imposed tomorrow. Many residents accuse the government of crippling economy in Srinagar city by imposing restrictions quite often to prevent protests. Earlier seperatists in a joint statement have called for protests after Friday prayers against the killing of women and children during anti militancy operations in Kashmir.
Authorities have also placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention in Zahid Nigeen residence. Senior Huriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani is already under house arrest in his Hyderpora residence. A senior police official told VOV that the main mosque of Srinagar Jamia masjid would be sealed and there would be no Friday prayers allowed there.
Police said that they have deployed additional paramilitary troops at all the sensitive places in Kashmir especially in Srinagar city in full riot gear to prevent protests. There have been no Friday prayers in downtown Srinagar’s main mosques and shrines from the past several weeks due to restrictions being imposed by authorities.
