Passengers stranded in Jammu continue to suffer while traffic authorities have allowed only those stranded vehicles and passengers who are trapped in Srinagar. Although many stranded vehicles were allowed to proceed to Srinagar on Thursday, reports said that many Kashmiris were still waiting to come back home as Srinagar Jammu highway was closed for traffic on Monday. The state government as usual said that they were ready to face the situation and did all for the media by conducting video conference meetings and at the end of the day the highway remained closed for three days and even on Friday it is partially restored. It reminds of the previous year did to inclement weather during winters Srinagar Jammu highway remained closed for 28 days.
Gulmarg and Kargil were the two coldest places in Kashmir and Ladakh regions during previous night, in Jammu region Bhadarwa and Banihal recorded minus temperatures. MET department of Srinagar has predicted dry wether till Sunday, it will result in freezing nights in Kashmir and Ladakh region.
A senior traffic official told VOV that tough national highway between Jammu and Srinagar has been restored it was still vulnerable to landslides at many stretches. He said that on Friday no vehicle from Jammu will be allowed to proceed to Srinagar. Only vehicles stranded in Srinagar will be allowed to proceed to Jammu today. He said that the condition of the road was not that well to allow two way traffic. It is in place to mention that the highway was closed on Monday due to landslides and it remained closed for three days. Bad weather conditions snow and rains, resulted in cancelation of 24 flights during the previous days on Srinagar airport. As the weather has improved all the flights will be as per schedule to and from Srinagar airport on Friday.
