Mirwaiz, Yasin arrested, accuse Delhi of repression and chocking voice of dissent

Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Wednesday tried to hold a sit-in protest peacefully in main city centre of Lal Chowk, but police arrested both Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik along with their dozens of supporters.

Earlier Director General of Police S.P. Vaid told media that Hurriyat leaders were free to hold peaceful and religious fuctions in Kashmir and they were not under detention. However, on Wednesday morning when Syed Ali Shah Geelani tried to move out from his Hyderpore residence he was told by police that he continues to be under house detention. Before being arrested they held a press conference and appealed people to observe black day and shutdown on November 27 against what they described as ill-treatment and thrashing of Kashmiri prisoners in different jails. They said that New Delhi and Mehbooba Government while presiding over the repression and the killings of Kashmiris.

Earlier, the Resistance Leaders addressed large gathering inside the Jamia Masjid of Abi Guzar and it was also address by Syed Ali Shah Geelani who continues to remain under house detention. Speaking over telephone to the people he said that the struggle of the people will continue for the basic right of self-determination. He demanded that under operation all out and army and other wings of the government were killing and thrashing Kashmiris. He said that such operations should be immediately stopped to allow people to have their say in the politics of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, Joint Resistance Leadership has said that they will fight the government on the streets of Kashmir and have said that if the government has the will let them allow these leaders to go to the people. When they were arrested they told media that all these claims of the government and police are hoax that they will allow Hurriyat leaders to have peaceful activities in Kashmir.
