Police denies use of pellets during Tral incident

Police on Thursday said that the reports of use of pellets after grenade blast in Tral were baseless.

A spokesman, quoting SP Awantipora Zahid Malik, said that no pellets were fired. “However, some shots were fired in air to prevent any further attack,” he quoted Malik as saying.

Giving details of the attack, the spokesman said that militants lobbed a grenade at Bus Stand Tral in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tral, Awantipora.

Two civilians identified as Pinky Kour, daughter of Ichpal Singh, resident of Chattrogam and Ghulam Nabi Trag, son of Ghulam Ahmad Trag, resident of Tral-e-Payeen were killed in the attack.

30 others, including seven CRPF men, two policemen and 21 civilians, were injured in the attack.“All the civilians were shifted to SDH Tral where from 16 civilians and two CRPF men were discharged while rest of the injured were shifted to Srinagar hospital,” he said, adding that the forces showed maximum restraint during the incident.
