Army men of 41 Rashtriya Rifles on late Friday evening thrashed a Munshi of a local police station near Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Kupwara.

Army personnel of 41 Rashtriya Rifles caught hold of the policeman following a scuffle and beat him up. Shabir Ahmad ‘munshi’ was beaten and he was later taken to sub-district hospital in Kupwara.

“The scuffle started when the ‘Munshi’ intervened to alleged irksome behavior of the army personnel with a civilian who was asked to come out of the vehicle he was traveling in.”

SSP Kupwara Samsher Hussain  said that army had siezed the vehicle of a local commuter and the Munshi had gone there to get his vehicle released. However, the army didn’t release the vehicle which resulted into a minor altercation between the munshi and the army men. The matter was later resolved amicably, he said.

He said that the Station House Officer was not even present at the spot and the claims made by a section of media that he too was beaten, are baseless.
