Srinagar:  Former cheif minister   Omar Abdullah today said if Mehbooba Mufti’s rule becomes untenable then President’s Rule may be the only option left.He was speaking to india today.

“If the continuation of Mehbooba Mufti as chief minister becomes untenable, as I believe its rapidly approaching that point, there may not be another option,” Omar Abdullah told India Today when asked whether President’s Rule should be imposed after incidents like this.

He pointed out that attacks of this nature had not taken place since 2000.

“I believe that the government of India needs to take a long hard look at the deterioration in the situation in J&K, particularly in the Valley, after the installation of Mehbooba Mufti as chief minister. After that it’s for the government of India to decide what it wants to do,” said the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference leader.

After the terror attack last night, there has been demands from various quarters that Jammu and Kashmir needs to be put under President’s Rule. Veteran Congress leader Karan Singh is among those who has made the demands saying the BJP-PDP state government has not been able to combat terrorism in the region effectively.

There has been massive protests in the Jammu division against the terrorist attack on Amarnath pilgrims. Protestors blocked highways at several placesin Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua and Samba districts by various parties including the Congress, JKNPP, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena.

Mufti, on the other hand, has said the terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Anantnag is a “blot on all Muslims and Kashmiris”.

Omar Abdullah also attacked the BJP-PDP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir.

“It is a failure of the experiment of the BJP and PDP coming together. There is a clear correlation between the coming together of the PDP and BJP and the deterioration of the law and order, security environment of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

He said it is not rocket science to understand the co-relation. (indiatoday)
