Police officer beats Doctor.

A resident doctor at the SMHS hospital in Srinagar Dr Owais was allegedly thrashed by a police officer and his escort personnel for ‘no reasons’ inside his resident quarter on Tuesday night.

According to reports the former station house officer (SHO) Karan Nagar, Issac and his escort came to the resident quarters of Dr Owais and told him that their patient admitted in the hospital is suffering from high fever. The doctor went to see the patient with them and prescribed him accordingly

But at midnight the police officer along with five other police personnel came to the quarters and allegedly  began beating the doctor without any reason for about half an hour,reports added.

Meanwhile, the doctors at the hospital have gone on a strike and are demanding severe action against the erring cop. Students have also boycotted the classes.

Police has refused to lodge an FIR into the incident, reports said.

“We went to Karan Nagar police station to lodge an FIR but police refused. They told us that they cannot lodge FIR against their officer,” the doctor said.

The officials at the Police Station Kara Nagar said that the said erring officer called the doctor to the PS late yesterday and the duo resolved the issue amicably.

“The police officer beat the doctor because of the negligence towards the patient. The issue was amicably resolved between the two,” said an official at Karan Nagar Police station.

However, he denied the allegations that the PS had not registered an FIR.

When contacted the MS SMHS hospital Srinagar said that the top police officials including SSP Srinagar has reached the hospital to sort out the issue.
