SRINAGAR: Paying tributes to Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg, former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, on his 35th death anniversary, Governor, Shri N N Vohra today said that Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg was a notable administrator and parliamentarian. “As Sheikh Sahib’s Revenue Minister, he was the architect of visionary land reforms and the enforcement of pro-tiller policies,” Shri Vohra said.

He said Shri Beg would perhaps be remembered most for the maturity and farsight with which he conducted the extended parleys, in the mid 1970s, with the representative of the Union, leading to the “Beg-Parthasarthy Accord”, a landmark in J&K – Delhi   understandings.

“Shri Beg’s signal contribution to the evolution of Centre-State relations comprises an important chapter in the annals of Jammu & Kashmir,” he said.
