Srinagar: In a response to Mehbooba Mufti’s interview to local daily National Conference on Thursday said it was extremely disappointing that a sitting Chief Minister had to resort to lies and distortion to justify her party’s Faustian and opportunistic bargain with communal forces. In a statement issued from Party Headquarters in Srinagar, NC Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said the Chief Minister in an interview to a local daily has tried to shift her culpability and responsibility rather than accepting her complete and utter failure to create an atmosphere of peace in the Valley.
“Mehbooba Mufti should know that Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah supported the State’s accession to a secular India on the basis of constitutional safeguards that were later eroded by various intrigues and irony is that Late Mufti Sahab was a part and parcel of some of those intrigues against the State’s special status. PDP and Late Mufti Sahab’s tie up with the BJP and the RSS is an opportunistic partnership with forces of communalism that have let loose a reign of terror and persecution across the country. Mufti Sahab went against the spirit of the State’s accession by giving the communal right-wing a foothold in J&K and a place in the civil secretariat – something they wouldn’t have even dreamt of”, the NC Chief Spokesperson said.
The NC Chief Spokesperson said Mehbooba Mufti’s admission that she was out on the streets during the 2010 unrest with slogans and placards is an admission of complicity and criminal conspiracy to fuel an unrest for partisan motives – something National Conference would never do for its own political gains. “Mehbooba Mufti wonders why National Conference is not out on the roads in the manner she has historically manipulated the sentiments and sufferings of the people. She should know Mr. Omar Abdullah is a leader who doesn’t believe in exploiting misery and pain – something that PDP has thrived on over the years. We will hold PDP accountable and we will highlight their lies, U-turns and treachery – but won’t do so while riding the pain and anguish of victims and bereaved families”, the NC Chief Spokesperson added.
“It is also ridiculous that the unpopular Chief Minister has chosen to pat her own back by portraying her opportunism and lack of empathy as an apparent virtue. She has not resigned not because of an alleged sense of responsibility but because of her sense of opportunism and her unconditional sell-out to the BJP and the RSS. The same Mehbooba Mufti made PDP run away from its responsibilities when it was in an alliance with the Congress and left the State in utter chaos and strife after the 2008 Amarnath Land Row Agitation. She was the main architect of that coup against Ghulam Nabi Azad when PDP withdrew its support to the Congress despite the fact that it was a PDP Minister who had signed over the land in question to the Shrine Board. This contradiction exposes the shallowness of the Chief Minister’s desperate, half-baked arguments”, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi said in the statement.
The NC Chief Spokesperson also reminded Mehbooba Mufti about the recent commendation of the Army Chief to the errant Major Gogoi who used a Kashmiri civilian – a voter – as a human shield on the day of the election to the Srinagar LS seat. “Our CM doesn’t have the courage to speak up against this insult meted out to her by the Central Government and the Army Chief. Now the BJP is seeking for the FIR to be quashed against him and Mehbooba Ji will dutifully oblige. She hasn’t spoken a word on the issue and her silence indicates her complete and unquestionable surrender”, the NC Chief Spokesperson stated.
