Incumbent Langate lawmaker, Er Rasheed Monday met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and sought action against those police officers who allegedly committed atrocities against Zubair Ahmad Turray of Shopian and forced him to take up arms.

Rasheed asked Mehbooba Mufti that what Zubair has revealed is just one among hundreds of such untold stories. Rasheed asked Chief Minister to answer some simple, genuine and basic questions which Zubair has posed to the state.

As per a statement he said, “An honest introspection and analysis will reveal that for most of the police force and other security agencies torturing youth, forcing them to join militancy and day today use of force against peaceful protestors and political activists has become a fruitful industry and while Kashmiris are suffering on daily basis and their life has turned like a hell, this all atmosphere of uncertainty has become a money making machine for such police officers. There are dozens of such examples where police’s torture, humiliation and atrocities have acted like a catalyst to the joining of young educated youth to join militancy. Under the cover of maintaining law and order and dealing with so called anti-national elements and stone palters the sense of accountability and transparency has came to an end and not only the political establishment but the policy makers at highest level are forced to believe that killing and humiliating Kashmiris is the only resolution to issues”.

Rasheed according to a statement told Mehbooba Mufti to take a serious note of the revelations made by Zubair in his video message and give an exemplary punishment to the police officers who forced Zubair to take up arms.
