Srinagar:EC cancels Anantnag LS bypoll says situation not feasible to hold elections now.
The Election Commission on Tuesday rescinded the by-elections in Anantnag parliamentary constituency in view of the prevailing law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Home Ministry’s inability to provide the requisite number of security forces for smooth conduct of the polls.
In its order, the EC said it had sought 687 companies of security personnel for the elections, based on the reports from the State police authorities. However, through a letter dated April 28, the Home Ministry expressed inability stating that only 250 companies could be provided to the State government.
