Srinagar: At least ten Kashmiri students who are studying at Mewar University Chittorgarh in Rajasthan were assaulted on Wednesday evening by a group of locals belonging to a particular community over heckling of CRPF men during recent parliamentarian elections in Budgam district.

Students hailing from Kashmir told Srinagar-based news agency GNS over phone from Mewar University said that locals of the area attacked them soon after they stepped outside the college gate for buying medicines and some other items.

“Four students received injuries during the incident and were hospitalized”, they said.

The students said that they were beaten with lathis and the attackers were repeatedly saying “you heckle our soldiers? We will not spare you”.

Irony is that the concerned police station did not reach on the spot despite being informed well in time about the incident, the students said.

Later when the police party led by SHO concerned police station reached the spot, the cops instead of enquiring the incident threatened the Kashmiris, the students alleged.

When contacted SHO Gagrar Police station told news agency GNS over phone that there was a misunderstanding between the Kashmiri students and some locals of the area.

“A case is being filed into the incident to ascertain the reasons that led to the clash between the students and the locals of the area “, SHO said, adding that action as per the law will be taken if anyone found guilty.

The police officer, however, denied injury to any student.

Repeated attempts to contact PRO of the varsity did not fructify.
