Srinagar: Three youth sustained injuries, one of them critically on Sunday after government forces resorted to firing in a Shopian village during cordon and search operation.
Sources said that army laid siege of Heff village in Shopian district after inputs about the presence of militants.
Soon after the siege was laid, locals, mostly youth started protesting by raising slogans and pelting stones on forces, police sources said.
Forces opened fire and used tear gas shells to disperse the protesters resulting in injuries to three youth, local sources said and added that one of them was hit by bullet in his shoulder and was shifted to Pulwama hospital. He was identified as Faizan Ahmad Shah S/O Bashir Ahmad Shah, a resident of Shirmal.
However, police sources said that some youth pelted stones on a forces party after the cordon during which a youth was injured.
